Canada hoping to eliminate moose-vehicle accidents with wildlife fencing

In order to reduce the number of moose-vehicle collisions in the Bay St. George area, a wildlife fencing system is being installed.

Harvey Gale and Son Ltd. was awarded the $1.4 million contract as part of the provincial government initiative. A section of the wildlife fencing will be tested before the entire system is installed.

If the test section works, the final fencing system will span from west of Gallants Road to east of Barachois Pond Provincial Park along the Trans Canada Highway. In addition, about 500 meters of fencing will be installed along Route 460.

The wildlife fencing initiative will take effect beginning this fall.
