TxDOT considered adding fence to keep turtles off of road

The Texas Department of Transportation has recently decided against building a “turtle fence”  on U.S. 190 between two Texas Counties.

The fence was proposed to decrease the number of turtles that are killed while trying to cross the road in that area. The project was backed by the Houston Zoo and the Texas Parks and Wildlife.

The guardrail with additional barrier for turtles was estimated to cost $750,000. The guardrail will still be installed, but the turtle fence will be left out.

A benefit that fences bring is not just keeping others out, but to keep things, such as animals, with in an area. If you are looking for a fence for this or other purposes, contact the Dallas fencing experts of Viking Fence today by calling 1-800-252-8117.
